Diamond Paper Mill
This mill went through a number of owners after it was started around 1870 as the Silver Spring Paper Company (named after the spring on the opposite side of Hoover Ave). In 1880 it was the Weymouth Paper Mills. In 1883 it was the Essex paper Company. In 1894, it became the Diamond Mills Paper Company. Diamond Mills produced fine quality paper tissues, including jeweler’s tissues and cigarette papers that were shipped around the world. It continued to operate as Diamond Mills until 1936 when it was bought by the Freeman Corporation. In 1960, it became Marcal Paper Company and operated as Marcal until it closed in 1980.
The mill was demolished to build Kinder Towers. Also on the property was the Collins House which was the papermill caretaker's home. The Collins House is currently being restored.
